The Soft‑Furred Flower of the Forest
Deep in the Silva, where the trees lean close as if sharing secrets, something enormous has begun to stir beneath the moss. At first it was only a bump in the forest floor — a gentle rise, like the earth taking a slow, thoughtful breath. But then the fur appeared. Soft, velvety, warm as a sleeping creature, pushing up through roots and fallen leaves.
Travelers whisper that the Bloom hums to itself at night. Hermits claim they’ve seen it wiggle, just a little, as if dreaming. And the forest animals have started leaving tiny offerings around it — acorns, feathers, a shiny pebble or two — as though greeting a very large friend who hasn’t quite woken up yet.
No one knows whether it is a flower learning to be a creature, or a creature pretending to be a flower. But the Silva knows. The trees know. And every night, the whole forest seems to hold its breath, waiting for the moment the Enormous Bloom finally opens… whatever it is planning to open.
